Hello! I’m Hugo

I was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica and Spanish is my native language. From an early age, I began mimicking the sounds of other languages just for fun! Later, I moved to California to complete high school in English, my second language. After college, I returned to Costa Rica where I became an ESL teacher. Four years later, I received a scholarship to learn Mandarin Chinese for five years. On my return to the US, I graduated in Linguistics and completed a decade of working as a Spanish language editor for a major company.

 Now, as I raise my own family, I speak Spanish 100% of the time to my own kids. After they learned how to write, I created a Spanish “club” with their school friends so that they would not feel alone on this journey. I wrote stories of things I wanted to share with them and published them in a book. Later, they needed another book, and then another book, and that’s how Mundo Beyondo was born.
